Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Getting New Control Scheme

October 18, 2021 by Carley Garcia

With updated graphics comes updated controls?

By this Christmas, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition might already be sitting on store shelves. The remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are right around the corner, and it’s no wonder that anxious fans have begun taking to the internet to share their meager findings of what’s in store for these classic titles. Last week, the achievements for each title were leaked by well-known GTA data miner alloc80r to the GTA forums, showing between 40 and 50 per game. Now, the same person has discovered some very hidden text on Rockstar’s site explaining some of the updates and improvements being added to these three titles–and not just the graphical kind.

The text reads:

Three iconic cities, three epic stories. Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail.

These two-decade-old games are not only getting a facelift but a very useful control scheme update as well. Given how well Grand Theft Auto V has done over the years, it’s likely that players will be happy to adopt the same targeting controls in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy as well–even if it takes some getting used to. It might be vital to override your muscle memory while you’re driving around Vice City.

Though this is all very possible, it’s important to remember that Rockstar has not officially commented on this claim.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is rumored to be coming in 2021 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Despite not having a solid release date yet, Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas have already been released from digital storefronts following the new project’s announcement. The titles will come to both iOS and Android in early 2022, Rockstar has confirmed.
