Dying Light Getting a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Patch

October 18, 2021 by Carley Garcia

Get ready for some long-awaited HD parkour.

Just because a title is six years old, doesn’t mean the content updates have to stop. Yesterday, the Dying Light Hellraid DLC was announced–and as if that isn’t enough to drive long-time fans wild, something bigger is on the horizon. The official Dying Light Twitter account, the dev team is currently working on a current-generation patch, ready to bring the classic survival horror title to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This, despite earlier confirmation from a member of the development team that a current-gen upgrade wouldn’t be happening until Dying Light 2 Stay Human was completed. A Nintendo Switch port was announced in August.

Though details on the next-gen patch are sparse, it doesn’t get much more official than the Tweet. With the title’s sequel less than four months away, this would be a great time to get players back into the first title–or a good time to introduce new players to the zombie-infested world. This will be a massive upgrade for fans of the game, as the title never received an enhanced PlayStation 4 or Xbox One X release.

On Friday, Techland released a free update for the game’s dark-fantasy Hellraid DLC that introduces a new location called the Armory, as well as a new magic skill and weapon.

Dying Light was originally released in 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Several years after its initial launch, the game continuously received patches and DLC, thanks in part to its incredible popularity. In January 2015, the game was the best-selling title of the month, and also broke the record for first-month sales of a survival-horror property. An expansion, Dying Light: The Following, was released in February 2016, while a sequel, Dying Light 2 Stay Human is scheduled to be released on February 4, 2022.
