Destiny DLC Theory: Updates Coming Every Four Months To Keep Revenue Flat Going

March 12, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Michael Pachter claims Activision and Bungie hope to reach 20 million active players by 2017.

What can fans expect from Destiny moving forward? Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has put forward a theory, based partly on what he’s been told by Activision.

Bear in mind that Pachter is an insider, but often mixes in speculation with information he knows to be fact, and is occasionally constrained to discuss what we know. We’ll keep which is which apart as best we can.

Pachter has said as a fact that Activision and Bungie intend to keep Destiny’s revenue flat year on year until they release Destiny 2. This means major content drops, similar in scope to World of Warcraft expansions, which they are likely to charge $ 40.

At this point, Pachter is pure speculation. He believes there will be a four month gap between each update, at a rate of two $ 20 expansions and one $ 40 expansion per year. I won’t go through all their revenue goals, but apparently Activision and Bungie hope to get to 20 million active players by 2017.

These plans are apparently comparable to those of FIFA Ultimate Team, which will allow fans to buy a retail copy of FIFA for one year once, and then update their roster year after year.

How do you feel about these possible update plans? Are you still an active Destiny player, or have you moved on to other shooters or games? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
