Ryse: Son of Rome PC Nvidia Performance Tweaks Guide

October 13, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

These settings will allow you to run Ryse: Son of Rome at a high framerate and resolution.

Ryse: Son of Rome is out for the PC now, and its performance on the Windows-based platform can be spotty at best depending on how well you configure the game’s graphical options.

To that end, Steam users like XII PYRO IIX have come up with appropriate settings for the Crytek title to get it to run at a smooth 60 frames per second—assuming you use a graphics card like the GTX 780 or one that meets the game’s “recommended” system requirements, along with a beefy processor to support it.

Firstly, make sure you’re running the latest Nvidia drivers (344.16) for the game. Once that’s installed, Go to the settings and make sure under the Graphics tab your settings are:

  • Window Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Supersampling: OFF
  • Graphics Quality: CUSTOM (This will automatically change in the next step)
  • Texture Resolution: VERY HIGH (This can't be changed for me and is locked)
  • Fullscreen: OFF
  • Vsync: DISABLED
  • Lock FPS: DISABLED

Then head on over to the Advanced Graphics tab and make sure your settings are:

  • Shading Quality: HIGH
  • Object Detail: HIGH
  • Shadows Quality: HIGH
  • Particle Quality: HIGH
  • Animation Quality: HIGH
  • Motion Blur: ENABLED
  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing: ENABLED
  • Anisotropic Filtering: 16x

He advises:

Once this is done make sure the settings are changed and exit the game. Open up Nvidia Control Panel and expand the "3D Settings" category, then select "Manage 3D settings". Click on the "Program Settings" tab and add or select your "RYSE.exe" file. Once selected, scroll down to "Vertical Sync" and select "Adaptive". Once selected, exit Nvidia Control panel and make sure you save your changes.

Next, open "Computer" and select the drive Steam is installed on. For me its "Computer/New Volume (D:)/Steam", but it might be different for you if it's installed on the same drive as your OS. I've installed mine on a separate HDD. Once you've found the Steam folder, go to "SteamApps/common/Ryse Son of Rome". You should see a file called "system". Open it with Notepad and at the very bottom type in "r_fullscreenwindow=1". Once completed, save your changes and close Notepad.

Should you follow these instructions, you’ll get the game to run in a 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second without tearing.
