Batman: Arkham Knight to Offer Smarter Enemies

October 2, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Arkham Knight will be using its past lore to cover its technological growth.

Very few licensed video game series ever do that well. Batman: Arkham Asylum and follow entries to the series changed that. We're even seeing its success creep into other franchises like Lord of the Rings, who has seen a huge amount of success recently with Shadow of Mordor, a stealth based non-canon story based in the same universe as the books. As the Batman series grows stronger, improvements must be made.

Rocksteady Studios, who develops the new Batman games, recently gave an interview to IGN. In this interview, a number of interesting facets pertinent to the upcoming Arkham Knight were discussed, but one thing caught our eye: smarter, more involved enemies. Normally, this would just be seen as a by product of technological growth. Rocksteady has covered up their tracks with a story based approach.

Rocksteady marketing manager Guy Perkins said that, "The death of the Joker at the end of Arkham City has created a different world for the criminals of Arkham Knight. He’s not there to disrupt the things they’re doing, so you have to imagine a world where he’s not there and not causing that chaos. They can get organised, work together and offer a more formidable challenge. He’s at the peak of his powers, but without his nemesis there to cock things up for everyone else then they get the chance to be a bit stronger, a bit braver and do things differently."

This means that the artificial intelligence system for the game has likely been completely revamped to suit the needs of a new environment and story. With the multiple successes of this Batman series, we're expecting Arkham Knight to be the biggest iteration into the franchise yet.
