Dragon Age 3: Inquisition Producer Talks About Dragon Age Keep

A week ago, we reported on a leak of the Dragon Age Keep, an app designed to allow players the ability to discover, shape, and share the experience they had while playing the first two Dragon Age titles, tailoring the decisions made in those two games and importing them into a new game of Dragon Age: Inquisition. 

The leak, which was published by a tester of the game, showcased a variety of choices, including hero attributes, companion details, quest results, and more. Players can also use the Dragon Age Keep to learn about the games’ myriad events and refresh their memory of what transpired, while learning about the setting’s lore and storyline.

Interestingly enough, the Keep wouldn’t be very useful if you weren’t able to transfer the decisions you’ve made in the previous games to the upcoming Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions—so it has the ability to do just that. It allows you to continue your world state, retaining the choices and their consequences into Dragon Age: Inquisition, regardless of your game saves. Where we’re going, you won’t need your older saves.

Today, the game’s producer Cameron Lee opened up in an interview with VG247 to talk about the system. 

“You can drill down to hundreds of decisions if you want to, or just the major ones. It’s up to you. And then you can bring those decisions into your game of Inquisition. It’ll automatically change the world based on that. The beauty is that if you’ve lost your saved games, or if you want to go from 360 to PS4 then you can do that now, whereas if you just used the saved games you wouldn’t be able to. It’s pretty cool.”

It goes without saying that the prospect of going through hundreds of different decisions may be difficult, so to that end BioWare is preparing a hint system to help players along the way.

“[We] made an algorithm that will go back over all of these hundreds of choices and it’ll find anything in conflict. So it’ll say, ‘You couldn’t have made these two decisions: which one did you really make?’ It reminds people.”
