Playstation Now Details Leaked, And It May Already Have Problems

June 20, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

It hasn’t even launched to the public yet, but it seems Sony’s streaming service will need some fine tuning in the pricing department.

There appears to be some leaks about how Playstation Now is going to work. Unfortunately, there may be some kinks on this as well, which they could have worked on in advance of the beta.

The source, of course, is sticking out their neck sharing this information, as everyone invited to the Playstation Now Beta is under strict NDA. As it is, the service is already available for Playstation Vita, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4.

Pricing seems to range between $ 2.99 to $ 29.99 and from 4 hours to 90 days. Prices are apparently set by the publisher, so you can expect different prices and ranges for different games.

Here’s a case in point. Saints Row can be played for four hours for $ 4.99, or 90 days for $ 29.99.

The problem with the beta is encapsulated below. Some games are already retailing for much lower prices than retail, making the idea of renting said games pretty pointless. In Sony’s defense, the service is being sold in such a way that that rental travels with you across three different consoles, as well as several soon to release TVs, although of course only gamers with two or all of these devices to get that value.

Playstation Now is going on beta by the end of July, with 100 PS3 games on offer. PS1 and PS2 games may soon come up as well, but no word on PSP games, and of course PS Vita and PS4 games are unlikely.
