We have new details on Bungie’s upcoming MMO shooter Destiny. This information was culled mainly from an analysis of the latest Titan Class trailers, as well as from going through Bungie’s revamped website.
The Titan may be packing a sword at the back, based on some art. His trailer shows him demonstrating various moves, including the Fist of Havoc, a bubble shield, a shoulder block, as well as a new knee attack.
The Warlock trailer, as we ourselves noted earlier, shows off the class’ teleport ability, as well as their Jedi-like powers, and the Triple Nova Bomb, a triple shot the class throws out from the air.
The Hunter trailer, we now know, throws a Hunter’s Knife, and not a boomerang, to strike down enemies. It also features the Arc Blade Super, a visually stunning attack that can be used on multiple enemies. You may also remember the Hunter sliding on the floor. We don’t know if this is unique to that class (due to training or some other conceit), but it promises to be useful and not just a flashy move. We also see Hunters pulling off the moves Blink and Golden Gun Super, which can take out three opponents at once.
The site shares information on the different enemy classes, which we will outline below:
The Fallen are hardy creatures that can survive different environments without aid. They travel light and strike fast. They are found in Old Russia.
The Hive are found in the moon’s core, carving out the dungeons to their liking and keeping many dark, dank secrets.
The Vex are the spitting image of the Terminators / Cybermen / Decepticons, which is to say, an antagonistic extraterrestrial all mechanical army. They do all have those tails and antlers, so they are distinctive. They lurk in Venus’ jungles.
The Cabal are a professional military force, for some reason active in the exclusion zone in Mars.
Let’s also take a look at the different environments.
Earth has gone through some devastation, with the survivors building a city in the area where we saw the Traveler make his last stand.
The moon is also filled with ruins of human civilization. The Cabal’s operations have forced the Guardians to deem the area a forbidden zone.
Venus was a paradise, where humans had placed large learning centers, only for the waters to come and destroy it all.
Lastly, Mars has been uninhabited for so long it may as well be a complete mystery. All people remember of our presence there was a long abandoned city, claimed by the Darkness, and then the sand.
The beta is coming up Summer of this year, available to players who preorders. Apparently, there will be a limited supply. The beta will allow players to engage in most of the game activities.
Finally, we can expect a massive information dump on Destiny this April 28, 10 AM Pacific / 5 PM UK, as that is when the embargo drops. We will be there to share with you more details on Bungie’s next big game.
Now, here’s stuff you may have missed:
The gun that looks like a Conduit F3 Fusion Rifle is actually not a shotgun. The barrel configuration should be the big giveaway, but also its overpowered burst fire, which can take multiple targets.
There was some confusion that Devil Walkers can throw bombs. Careful examination of that trailer reveals that it was actually thrown by a Titan, and it also showed the Blink move in action.
The scene showing a Hive Knight attacking depicts him being engulfed in a red glow, which acts like flames. Like an open flame, the glow dissipates when he finishes the move.
There’s a scene where the Ghost emits a beam. It does not look like he is attacking at all. It is more likely that he is interacting with the environment somehow, possibly some tech within his vicinity.
The shoulder block actually struck some Vex Hobgoblins. It happens so fast that you really could have missed it.
The trailers give us brief glimpses of new vehicles, one owned by the Vex, another likely to be a turret. We may have also gotten our first look at the Cabal Psions, and a new, signigicantly tall, unnamed creature.
Supers have a bar you need to raise before you can use them. The good thing is that success in attacks and protecting allies power up that bar.
There’s a little more if you’re curious. Funnily enough, astute observers noticed missing details for characters, even whole torsos. After all, Destiny is still a work in progress.
Destiny is coming to Windows, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on September 9.
