Sleeping Dogs Movie Adaption Finally Entering Production?

July 8, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Donnie Yen teases his next role online.

There is always a push to bring out some new exciting video game movie adaptations. We’ve seen far and few of these adaptations make a big splash on the big screen, however, some tend to get a great following. For instance, there was a cult following for the likes of Silent Hill, Warcraft, and even the Sonic movie that came out recently. Despite some fans not having as much fun with certain film adaptations, that won’t stop certain productions continue on.

Currently, there has been plenty of talk regarding the Uncharted movie adaptation which has been in limbo for years for it to only get delayed after traction started up thanks to the coronavirus health outbreak pandemic. Another film that has been in development hell has been Donnie Yen’s, Sleeping Dogs. Donnie Yen is an established actor that is trained in martial arts. Furthermore, he’s been a big fan of Sleeping Dogs and for years now he’s been trying to get the movie off the ground. Luckily that production maybe his next big role after he made a slight tease online.

Donnie Yen posted to his Weibo (it's like Chinese twitter) that he is "Excited to start his next challenge" and is preparing for a new movie.

The actor took to his social media account on Weibo to tease his next production where it was translated to find that this tease included Sleeping Dogs. Most are assuming that the production is finally going to start up here soon and give fans a look at a new medium of the video game franchise. This movie production may also shed some light on the beloved open-world video game title.

Sleeping Dogs was a hit for plenty of gamers out there but it never could live up to meet a massive stream of success. Despite positive reviews and players that have enjoyed the game after purchasing a copy, the Square Enix published title never saw a sequel. The development studio that worked on the game, United Front Games, was closed down cancelling the sequel they had in mind.

For now, it looks like there is still plenty of love for Sleeping Dogs and if we never get a sequel, Donnie Yen is going to give it his all and bring out a movie adaptation for viewers to enjoy.
