Nintendo has sold 2.1 million 2DS systems to date and 7.38 million copies of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The company revealed the numbers in their consolidated financial highlights for Q3 2014.
The 2DS was released on October 12th last year while 42.7 million 3DS systems have been sold since February 2011. 154 million DS family handhelds have also found their way into consumers' hands.
Since its Japanese launch in October 2012, New Leaf has achieved sales of over seven million and launched in the West in April – between that time and the end of 2013, 2.79 million copies were sold outside Japan and 730,000 copies were bought in the country.
Nintendo announced a year-on-year profit fall of 30 per cent for the nine months leading to December and slashed hardware sales forecasts. The company's board has taken salary cuts as a result of poor performance.
In their official release schedule for 2014, the company did not mention Watch_Dogs for release on Wii U, raising concerns over the fate of the game for the platform.
