#16 Dead Island 2
Platform: PC PS4 Xbox One PS5 XSX|S
Release Date: April 21, 2023
Epicgames | Playstation | Xbox
Dead Island 2 was a game that most of us thought would stay in development hell. It took years to get the sequel for Dead Island finally, and multiple development studios were involved at some point. But fortunately, Dambuster Studios was able to bring this game out into the marketplace, and we’re able to rip through countless undead zombies. For those who might be unaware, Dead Island 2 takes place a few years after the original game’s events. Much like the first installment, players are presented with the opportunity to pick from various protagonists, each with unique attributes. From there, you’re dropped into the now-quarantined California state. A new zombie plague has struck, leaving the citizens to reach an extraction point within Los Angeles. You soon find yourself immune from the zombies; your blood could be the key to finding a cure. Now you’ll need to melee your way through countless different zombies in hopes of getting rescued. If you enjoy bashing through the undead, it’s worth pointing out the FLESH system Dambuster Studios implemented in this game. Here you’ll get a system that can replicate various blows showing off damage to the skin, muscle, and bone. Here’s hoping you’re not afraid of a little blood; by little, we mean a lot!
#15 Back 4 Blood
Platform: PC PS4 Xbox One PS5 XSX|S
Release Date: October 12, 2021
Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series by developers Turtle Rock Studios. So if you’re familiar with that franchise, then you know what to expect with Back 4 Blood. It’s essentially an FPS zombie title where most of the world was infected by a plague. Players are taking the role of a survivor known as a Cleaner. These individuals seek to destroy the undead while keeping citizens safe in a fictional settlement. However, there is one slight difference with this installment compared to the Left 4 Dead franchise. Within Back 4 Blood, we’re getting a card system. Players can collect cards and use them within the game, which can further buff their character in different areas, such as health, damage, and stamina. But the same card system can be used in the game to buff the enemy’s undead swarm which might make a game session a bit more challenging.
#14 Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights
Platform: PC PS4 Xbox One PS5 XSX|S Switch
Release Date: July 20, 2021
Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a Metroidvania game where players take the role of a young girl named Lily. Waking up from a slumber within the kingdom’s church, you find a new plague hitting the world. Now some curse has turned the inhabitants into monsters, some of which are zombie-like. Players will need to venture through the world and attempt to cleanse the kingdom. If you enjoy games like Hollow Knight, you might find this well worth the pickup.
#13 World War Z: Aftermath

Loosely based on the movie and novel of the same name, World War Z: Aftermath puts players into the heart of massive cities dealing with the zombie apocalypse. You’ll have to deal with up to a thousand hungry mindless zombies in a third-person shooter. But since the game doesn’t just focus on one particular area, you’ll battle the undead in the likes of New York, Tokyo, Moscow, and Rome. Using an assortment of weapons, players will need to fight off the horde by any means possible. Fortunately, you won’t have to do it alone. This title offers cooperative multiplayer so your friends can join together as you attempt to mow down the dead.

#9 Resident Evil 4 Remake
Developers: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platform: PC PS4 PS5 XSX|S
Release date: March 24, 2023
Steam | Playstation | Xbox
If you’ve been struggling to get a PS5, or you’re simply fine with playing your PS4 until it breaks, you’re in luck! Why? Because many big-name developers are making their AAA accessible to last-gen consoles alongside next-gen ones. An excellent example is Resident Evil 4’s recent remake.
Even without the PS5’s hardware, you’ll be able to enjoy seeing Leon S. Kennedy back in action and attempting to take down the monsters that fill up a small Spanish town.
Numerous upgrades in this remake help it stand out from past ones, including how the gameplay has been ramped up to make it more of a challenge!
#8 7 Days To Die
7 Days To Die may be somewhat of a hidden gem. It’s a game all about survival and it’s filled with building, managing, and ultimately preparing for a big upcoming battle. In this game, players must scavenge for resources and keep track of your vitals as you build up a structure. It’s important to keep your structure fortified and ready for the onslaught of zombies that will burst into the area. This is essentially a wave-based type of game, but best of all, 7 Days To Die can be enjoyed with friends as you build up together and aiding each other as you fight against the undead horde.
#7 TellTale Games The Walking Dead Definitive Series
If you’re after a narrative-focused zombie game then we have to recommend Telltale Games The Walking Dead. This game is all about narrative with gameplay mainly focused on QTEs and exploration. With this game, players follow a story of a young girl named Clementine who is stranded during a zombie apocalypse. Most of this game relies on players choosing a series of pathways that will alter the overall narrative. While the game series has been around for years and spans across multiple title, the Telltale Games The Walking Dead Definitive Series offers the series of video games together. Chances are you may have enjoyed the games or perhaps never got around to finishing them up. With this edition you’ll get the full story with some enhancements.
#6 Resident Evil 3 Remake
After having quite the successful release of Resident Evil 2 Remake, Capcom kept the remake trend going with Resident Evil 3. This title could actually be played before Resident Evil 2 as its set around in the same time. Players take the role of Jill Valentine, a few months after the events of Resident Evil. Jill has been on a hunt to find out more dirt on Umbrella Corporation so that she can take the company down legally. One night while relaxing in her Raccoon City apartment, all hell breaks loose as a zombie infection has struck the city leaving panic and chaos in the streets.
To top it off, a new bioweapon has been unleashed to track down and finish off any living STARS members that were at the mansion from the original game. Now Jill is left to flee the city while learning more about the Umbrella Corporation. This game offers the same overall gameplay mechanics from Resident Evil 2 Remake. Players will be exploring the area, solving puzzles and managing limited resources. However, this game is a bit shorter than the previous installments so while you will be exploring, there is smaller set pieces available to really venture in rather than being big elaborate areas such as the Police Station or the mansion from the first installment.
#5 Dying Light
From the developers behind Dead Island came Dying Light, which was another take on a zombie video game. Unlike the bright colorful world in Dead Island, Dying Light offered a more bleak environment to battle through. In this game players take the role of Kyle Crane, a man who is tasked into infiltrating a quarantine city that has been infected with zombie-like virus. There’s two big element to this game that makes it standout compared to Dead Island.
The development team opted to give players the ability to parkour around the map easily which means running and vaulting off of buildings is going to be key in traversing around the city. This is also going to be your means of escape as another element to this game is that zombies become far more aggressive at night leaving it difficult to really fight back. This game was such a hit that the development team has been working on a sequel. However, at the time of writing this description, Dying Light 2 doesn’t have a release date set just yet.
