No, the Red Ring of Death hasn’t returned to ruin the start of your 2014. That hardware anomaly will remain in our past, but a couple of Xbox One users have reported that their systems are leaking some sort of strange fluid after extended play. It doesn’t seem to be widespread, but that doesn’t stop the news from being just flat-out strange.
These stories can be found on the Xbox Forums (via GameSpot), where new Xbox One owners have been posting their issues for all to see.
“My Xbox One is leaking out some kind of oil out of the vent, and there are these white milk like stains in the center of the vents,” one owner writes. “And by milk like, I mean if you leave a glass without rinsing it off after you drank milk and it dries on.”
That sounds pretty disgusting, but hey, he’s not the only one dealing with the attack of the milk stains.
“When I got my Day One edition, mine had this too,” another user chimed in. “Eventually it just kind of dried up and went on its way.”
There are always at least a few issues with launch hardware, and if this was a major problem, we would have likely heard about more cases. However, it’ll be interesting to see if similar reports appear in the coming months.
