When a game gets a patch, you often assume it’s to fix a few bugs or stabilize the multiplayer. Games are launching with more bugs than ever before, so we need patches to clean up whatever mess has been left. However, the latest update for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is of a different ilk. The PC version is being updated to add a "whole new level of realism" though new smoke physics, as well as a handful of other features. Yes, the smoke has become more realistic.
The smoke comes in many different forms. This patch adds PhysX Particles and Turbulence to enhance the visual effects surrounding pistol and musket smoke, smoke bombs, and chimney smoke. The smoke will be longer lasting, thicker, and can interact with characters on screen. The rain and wind will even affect it.
I know this all sounds a bit silly, but when you see the above video, you just might change your mind. If you're actually interested in what the game's like, take a look at our review.
