Review Roundup: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Manages to do the Impossible on the Nintendo Switch

October 20, 2019 by Jordan Biazzo

Are you going to pick up the Switcher?

CD Projekt RED’s biggest title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has finally arrived on the hybrid console — The Nintendo Switch!

The long-awaited title is here and for the most part, it seems that CD Projekt RED managed to pull off the impossible. We already know Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a very demanding game, so to see it run on a Switch, which isn’t the most powerful machine, is a true joy.

Down below are some of the most respectable gaming sites in the industry, check out the highlights for their reviews on CD Projekt RED’s latest title — The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Nintendo Switch:

Gameranx:

NintendoWorldReport 95

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is every bit the amazing game on Switch that it is everywhere else. While the Switch version does of course make compromises, the core vision and game design shine through, assuming you have the brightness turned up. While it is unfortunate that the route finding system is just as bad now as it was at launch, it is ultimately a tiny chip in an otherwise remarkable masterpiece.

GameSpot 90

Although the Nintendo Switch might not be the best platform to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it’s still a fantastic experience that shouldn’t be missed. If you are looking to replay The Witcher 3 and bask in its detail and beauty, the Switch port may not quite scratch that itch. However, what makes this game excellent isn’t its graphics, but the powerful stories it tells, and those are as vivid as ever on Switch.

Nintendo Insider 90

Without a doubt, the best way to experience The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is on a much more powerful system with a top of the range television to match. After all, the game can be found for a much cheaper price on other consoles due to its age. However, that kind of luxury isn’t always practical, and what CD Projekt Red and Saber Interactive have done to make the Nintendo Switch version possible is a stunning achievement in its own right. The premium price tag that marks the game will never feel like it isn’t value for money. That is, assuming the genre is of taste to the player plunging in on the purchase.

IGN 80

The Switch port of The Witcher 3: Complete Edition certainly isn’t how I’d recommend you experience CD Projekt Red’s epic fantasy masterpiece for the first time, but it’s serviceable if you’re unable to play on PC or a more powerful console — or prefer to do your monster hunting away from a TV. On a full-size screen, however, it suffers to the point where it looks more reminiscent of the 360 generation than the current one.
