GameStop Supports Operation Supply Drop Through Game and Gear Donations

November 1, 2013 by Yesika Reyes

GameStop does its part to help soldiers in combat zones and those recovering in hospitals through sending video game care packages.

Military gaming charity Operation Supply Drop announced in a press release today that GameStop donated pallets worth of rare unopened PlayStation 3 bundles to the charity's 8-Bit Salut fundraising drive. The items will be distributed to soldiers in combat and those recovering in hospitals.

It was also noted to be the larget in-kind donation the charity has received.

“We’re honored to have the opportunity to give back to the men and women in the Armed Services,” said Matt Hodges, vice president of investor and public relations for GameStop.  “It is our sincerest hope that these games and accessories provide some relief to the men and women who every day faithfully serve and protect our country.”

A GameStop store manager also decided to conduct her own operation seen through the photo above. Eleven GameStop stores in Forrida will be raising funds and collecting used consoles during major launch events like the release of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Black Friday.

"This is just something I, myself as a grand daughter/daughter/niece of military vets thought needed to be done; they deserve our support. I just hope we make you (soldiers) proud and show that little people out there do care an awful lot about what you all do for us. Our military and its veterans are amazing people," said GameStop store manager Denise Drebitko-Dorman.

Operation Supply Drop also sent USD $30,000 worth of video games to troops earlier this year. Check them out at their website to learn more.
