According to a teaser video released today by Sony the company is set to make an announcement concerning the PocketStation memory card peripheral on Tuesday, November 5th.
The PocketStation was originally released as a memory card based micro-console for the original PlayStation. It included a monochrome LCD screen, infrared ports, a clock, built-in flash memory capacity, five face buttons, and audio output.
Sony began selling the device in exclusively in Japan in 1999 when it came in a choice of white or clear and ceased production in 2002. It was a sizable success in Japan, selling out in the region.
With the announcement of the $100 PSVita TV micro console it seems unlikely that Sony will release a rival system. The new PocketStation may be an app either for PS4 or mobile devices, perhaps both. Either way, we should know more next week.
