Pokemon X and Y: Pokemon Bank Explained, New Pokemon Revealed

Also, we have screenshots for the new Mega Evolutions for the original starters.

Pokemon Company has unveiled a new page on their official website explaining in detail what Pokemon Bank is and how it works. We also have new screenshots for you revealing the Mega Evolutions for the original starters and what could be a brand new Pokemon.

Don’t think of Pokemon Bank like a monetary bank, it is more like a storage bank for Pokemon. You will have boxes that can deposit and withdraw Pokemon from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. It can also transfer all the Pokemon from any of the four Pokemon Black and White Games (Pokemon Black, Pokemon White, Pokemon Black 2, and Pokemon White 2) via a special companion app called Pokemon Transporter.

Each box in Pokemon Bank can store as much as 30 Pokemon (in a 6×5 grid), and you can keep 100 boxes for a total 3,000 Pokemon. This brings up storage capacities to twice as much as was possible in the first Pokemon Box for Gamecube and My Pokemon Ranch for the Wii.

Yes, they will serve as a backup for your precious Pokemon data in case you lose your personal physical copies of the game. You will also be able to store Pokemon from different game saves, as well as transfer multiple Pokemon at a time. Pokemon Company confirms that this will be a paid service, but there will be a free trial period.  I would encourage that Nintendo and Pokemon Company make this a freemium service a la Evernote, allowing the majority of users limited free usage and have hardcore fans pay to use all 100 box slots.

Getting that out of the way, here are a few pictures of the Mega Evolutions for the starter Pokemon, Mega Charizard, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Blastoise.

Speaking of Mega Blastoise, this screencap from a sharp-eyed NeoGAFfer shows him facing down a brand new Pokemon. Or maybe it’s a Mega Evolution for a Pokemon we already know? We’ll leave it up to you to find out.
