Everyone is familiar with Google, it’s a massive company that grew over the years. In some way, shape, or form you use Google whether be YouTube, Gmail, or simply their search engine. It’s no surprise that Google is continuing to expand and bring out new ideas and innovations, but you may be a bit surprised that this company may soon get into the video game industry in a bigger way than ever before. We’ve seen attempts before to create an online streaming service for gamers to showcase gameplay and more recently, the company has brought out Project Stream as a means to provide gamers with the latest video game titles through the Chrome browser.
Now the latter of the two mentioned above is not technically out yet. Instead, it’s only been released as a testing phase with a single game being provided for players, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. But it may soon become a bigger service online for players to be interested in as Google previously spoke of bringing out Project Stream in a bigger way this year. Likewise, it looks like Google has some plans for GDC 2019.
Invitations have been sent out to publications to attend their press conference event. During this Google keynote, the company will have something to reveal. While it could very well be a means to further expand gamers interest in Project Stream, this may be something a bit more. Google could attempt to bring in some hardware of their own to compete with the likes of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. With Project Stream potentially backing the console and a company that certainly has the funds to back it up, this event could be one many will be tuning in to see.
For now, all we can do is speculate as Google didn’t get any clues as to what they will be discussing at GDC. Currently, the GDC event will be held on March 19, 2019, so until then we want to hear your thoughts on Google entering the video game industry. Let us know by leaving a comment down below.
