Fortnite: Battle Royale – Everything New In Season 6 | Pets, Floating Isle, Shadow Stones & More

September 27, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Check out floating islands, spooky haunted castles, cute pets, and strange Shadow Stones — this is everything new we’ve found so far in Season 6 of Fortnite: Battle Royale.

Season 6 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is packed with new features — and we’re not just talking about cosmetics. There are adorable pets that ride around on your back, Shadow Stones to help you sneak around the map, and several unique locations to explore. That includes a floating island and a spooky castle on a high hill.

The new locations aren’t exactly game-changing — not yet, anyway. The floating island is particularly tiny, and appears right over Loot Lake, turning the once placid waters into a swirling vortex. What does it all mean? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Until then, let’s talk about all the new, wonderful and wild stuff there is to explore in Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 6.

As with every new season, there’s an array of cosmetic customization available for you to check out. In the gallery above, I’ve snapped shots of the most primo stuff — including two new upgradeable costumes you can unlock. The first one is a starter outfit, and the second is available all-the-way- at Tier 100. Yes, you too can become a Teen Wolf.

Along with costumes, there’s also new Pet cosmetics! There are three types of pets to unlock:

  • Bonesy the Dog
  • Camo the Chameleon
  • Scales the Dragon

Each pet appears on your back, and they’re super-cute. There are other back-customization choices too, like a set of spooky Halloween bat wings. The pets also come in alternate colors as you unlock Battle Pass tiers.

The Creepy Castle

The Creepy Castle appears on a high cliff next to Haunted Hills. This vampiric bastion is full of spooky sights — including a throne room, and chained coffins. There are tall towers and spires to explore, and even some chests to grab. The area isn’t too large, and the building is in ruins, so there are some quick escape routes if you’re caught stuck inside the spooky location’s walls.

Shadow Stones

A new feature for Season 6, the map is now covered in creepy purple runes. These rune sights are full of a consumable item called a Shadow Stone. Using a Shadow Stone will turn you into a Shadow — you can quickly zip around the map, and nothing can hurt you! While in Shadow For

m, you can’t hurt anything either.

But, you can choose when to pop-out of Shadow Form. It only lasts a few minutes, and people can still see you. But, you can pop a Shadow Stone for a quick escape, or a stealthy entry into a named location. The Shadow Stones are always found around the outskirts of larger areas — and as a bonus, there are usually three treasure chests in the center.

The Floating Island

You can’t miss the Floating Island that appears right over Loot Lake. This giant chunk of land has been pulled from below, and floats in a strange shielded warp bubble, twisting the water beneath it. This is truly the standout visual so far in Season 6, and it looks incredible from far away.

The island itself is a small, cramped location that is packed with treasure chests. There’s a small mine on the lower levels, and an old, decrepit house on the hill. What’s the purpose of this little old house? We have no idea, but it’s fun to speculate — maybe this island is going to get bigger, and eventually change Loot Lake into an entirely different location? Fingers crossed.
