Dead Island 2 has been slowly slugging in and out of development hell since its revealed back in 2014. Originally Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager was at the helm. Then, in 2015, publisher Deep Silver confirmed that it had dropped Yager as developer, before announcing that the team behind Little Big Planet and Forza Horizon, Sumo Digital would lead development.
Earlier this week Deep Silver released a mobile spin-off game dubbed: Dead Island: Survivors, which led to rumours that the original Dead Island 2 might actually be cancelled.
Now the studio has finally pipped up, giving a fan uncertain of the game’s release a response tweet of:
‘Yes, Dead Island 2 is still in development.’
As of right now, there is no release date for the title, Deep Silver has asked that fans be patient until further notice.
Honestly, considering the number of development shifts and uncertainty, I’m pretty doubtful that the game will release this year – hopefully Deep Silver will be able to prove me wrong (otherwise I’ll just head into Dying Light 2 like my original plan.)
