Square Enix has confirmed that the next entry in the Legacy of Kain series will be titled 'Nosgoth' but added that the game is not "a traditional" installment in the franchise Eurogamer reports.
George Kellon, a Square Enix community manager, commented "While we can confirm that this game exisits, is in active development and is set in the same universe as the Legacy of Kain games, it's not a traditional or even single-player LoK experinece."
Referring to listings of the game in Steam and AMD databases Kellon added "it feels weird to have bunch of info out there and we don't the community to get the wrong idea, especially as the game won't be at this year's E3."
Nosgoth is not being developed by Tomb Raider maker Crystal Dynamics who previously hemled the series and they are not currently involved in any Legacy of Kain projects. Earlier this year Deus Ex: Human Revolution studio Eidos Montreal registered several domains for the title including WarForNosgoth.com possibly indicating that they are in fact the game's developer.
The game is described as being "set in the world of Nosgoth, [but] it's very much on a separate branch to both the Soul Reaver and Blood Omen series."
Kellon concluded by saying that there be an official announcement in due course and that "Everyone at Squre Enix is really excited by the game and we're all looking forward to lifting the veil of secrecy in the future."
