Last year, Gameranx picked up on a job opening seeking a “talented gameplay engineer” posted on Blizzard’s website.
The vacancy specified that the ideal candidate would need to be able to “help create vehicles and build vehicle handling features in a robust first-person engine for an unannounced project”. Now, a newly materialised listing on Blizzard’s Career tab is requesting a senior game designer, ostensibly for the same mystery game. It writes, much much more unequivocally, that Blizzard Entertainment is after someone “with experience in developing…gameplay systems in action or first-person shooter games.”
However, and this may come as a disappointment to Overwatch fans who were hoping for a singleplayer campaign, the responsibilities mention a “passion for…creating PvP game experiences”, which is exactly what the game already offers.
So unless Blizzard has begun covertly developing Overwatch 2 and deployed bulletproof anti-leak technology that would make James Bond jealous, this looks like the outline for a completely new IP. Are you interested in something totally different, or would you prefer a sequel with all the familiar Overwatch trimmings plus a chance to fly solo? Let us know in the comments.
