The Soundtrack To Mega Man 1 Can Finally Be Purchased In America

April 9, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

Do you pay the exorbitant asking price or stick with illegal rips?

During PAX East a few weeks back, Capcom made a number of announcements concerning Mega Man. One was how the music from the NES games would be finally released in America.

For many years, diehard fans of the series (and aficionados of NES audio) have enjoyed the original soundtracks, but the means of procuring said music has varied greatly. Though most (if not all) have not been exactly legal, due to the fact there has never been official means here in America.

That all changes now: the soundtrack from Mega Man 1 game can be purchased digitally, via the Capcom Store, reports Joystiq. The asking price? $8.95. Seems a bit? You're not the only one wondering just that.

As it's been pointed out already by countless individuals, one can nab the entire game for far less on the PlayStation Network or Nintendo's various digital distribution platforms.

No word on what format or bit rate the soundtrack is. Mostly due to the fact that most people who would be interested already have music already (no doubt rips from the countless number of Mega Man CD releases from Japan over the years).

But hey, at least one can finally purchase said music legally outside of Japan. It's also the perfect way to get ready for the music in Shovel Knight, which will have tracks by the same composer of Capcom's classic.

Capcom has stated that it will eventually release all the music from all the other NES Mega Mans in the near future. Hopefully sales are strong enough to warrant similar releases. I’ve personally had zero luck finding the soundtrack to Street Fighter 2010 anywhere online.
