Star Wars 1313 Would Have Been About Boba Fett

April 5, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

Also, the game that looked too good to be true was just that.

As pretty much everyone knows by now, LucasArts is no more. And not only has Disney but an end to an era, but a few games that were in mid-production were also canned. Specifically, Star Wars 1313, which aside from being one of the two lone highlights of an otherwise dismal E3 2013, was arguably the most interesting looking Star Wars games in ages.

Guess what? The bad news keeps on coming. Because accord to sources close to Kotaku, the game was supposed to be about Boba Fett, the Mandalorian armor wearing bounty hunter who happens to be one of the few vestiges of the franchises that has managed to hang onto his coolness despite his rather awkward and somewhat goofy original, as disclosed in the prequels.

The decision to have the game star Boba Fett was also a directive from the man himself, George Lucas. Kotaku even has an example of concept art for the game, featuring Boba alongside another Star Wars bounty hunter, on the ground and in cuffs, clearly the loser in some kind of exchange.

The natural question is if there's a chance for 1313 to live on. After all, LucasArts has said that it and the other cancelled Star Wars game, First Assault, could be licensed out to other developers. But, again according to Kotaku's sources, the chances are supposedly "very slim."

The game's development had been on hold since last fall, which might be a key reason as to why LucasArts was shut down in the first place; if the game was indeed a sure fire winner… which many people wanted to believe, due to the extremely exciting looking debut footage… then perhaps the studio would have been kept open, just for that?

Some figured the footage was too good to be true. Turns out, it was true:

"They ended up with movie tech that wouldn't fit in a game, and game tech that wouldn't fit in a movie… 1313 was always in danger of not being made."

Kotaku also has another piece of concept art, again featuring Boba Fett.
