Monster Hunter: World Issues Formal Invite to Street Fighter’s Ryu, Sakura

January 28, 2018 by Katrina Filippidis

Two new challengers approach for epic monster-slaying.

Fresh off the heels of their triumph against M. Bison in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Ryu and Sakura are trading roundhouse kicks for the elusive pursuit of fearsome beasts in Monster Hunter: World. Announced by Capcom’s Yuri Araujo, the union of franchises will allow players to acquire Street Fighter armour for both Ryu and Sakura, as well as the option to alter character voices to match.

The quest to obtain Ryu’s armour set will go live in “a few weeks”, according to the blog entry. It will be an exclusive early access opportunity for PlayStation 4 hunters in possession of Street Fighter V and/or Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition save data, which unlocks “Down the Dark, Muddy Path”, a special quest which dispenses SFV tickets upon completion. Bringing those tickets plus other required materials to the Smithy gives you access to the Ryu armour set. Hunters without SFV save data needn’t worry about time constraints, since the same Event Quest will be swinging back at a future date for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. Furthermore, two additional Event Quests will follow on both consoles, giving players the chance to collect the necessary SFV tickets to craft Ryu and Sakura armour.

While several achievements (including Living Legend and Bandana Girl) and poses (Shōryūken, Hadōken) are free, gestures are considered ‘premium’ content and will cost you. Both Street Fighter V Hadōken and Shōryūken gestures are priced at $3.99 USD each while the Stamp Set is available for a slightly cheaper $1.99 USD.

Monster Hunter: World released on January 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A PC version is also expected to release in Autumn 2018, with Capcom citing the extra requirements involved in PC matchmaking as the reason for delay.
