Ubisoft thinks the PlayStation Vita is still a viable platform. While Sony has lowered its sales forecast for the handheld. which many believe is Sony unofficially admitting it's a sales disaster, Ubisoft thinks there's still money to be made on the next-gen portable.
According to Ubisoft, "We wouldn't discount PS Vita," and added, "If you have the right product at the right quality it could work." This hasn't been more apparent than in Ubisoft's AAA game for the handheld — Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, which has now moved 600,000 units.
While that number might seem paltry compared to other games these days, keep in mind that the PS Vita's user base isn't exactly thriving right now.
Reading Ubisoft's statement should assuage fears that the publisher will abandon the portable, but sadly, they haven't announced if they have another PS Vita Assassin's Creed game in development.
What we do know that's in development is Assassin's Creed 4, which Ubisoft has revealed that they will be releasing in fiscal year of 2014 and will star a new protagonist, as well as a new timeline.
