Ahead of SimCity Release, Origin for Mac Goes Into Alpha

January 25, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

An alpha version of Origin can now be downloaded on the Mac.

Origin is now available for a select group of Mac gamers. Numbered in the thousands, a few lucky gamers will be able to download the client to play a Mac version of PoPcap's Bookworm for free.

The Mac client comes ahead of EA's release of SimCity in a month, which is set for simultaneous release on both the PC and Mac. Unlike other EA titles, the game is being developed in-house—as opposed to being ported by a third party—and expected to receive simultaneous updates with neither client lagging behind. Both versions of the game are expected to be interconnected, so players on the PC version can interact with those on the Mac, and vice versa.

If you're keen on testing out the Mac client, just head on over to EA's Origin website and download the client.

Mac versions of existing games are planned for EA's digital distribution service before the Mac client goes public. The Origin Store will remain offline for the duration of the test.

If you participate in the alpha, be sure to read the Origin FAQ before you sign on.

Thanks Eurogamer.
