DungeonLand’s Dungeon Master Mode is Brilliant, Allows You to Grief Your Friends

November 28, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Find out what being a Dungeon Master in DungeonLand is all about.

Paradox Interactive and the developers at Critical Studio have put together a developer diary for the upcoming DungeonLand, a cooperative action game.

The video provides an in-depth look at the game's Dungeon Master mode, which allows players to, and I quote, "fuck your friends." While most of the game consists of playing cooperatively with your buddies, the Dungeon Master mode is an asymmetrical gameplay option that allows you to mess around and grief your friends as they play.

In Dungeon Master mode, three players go through the game cooperatively while a fourth player takes on the role of the so-called Dungeon Master who tries to kill the heroes. Dungeonland designer Mark Venturelli explains how the whole thing works.

"This is just the kind of idea that you think, 'why didn't anybody do this before?' and as far as we know, nobody did," he says.

As a Dungeon Master, you'll be able to formulate your plan with an arsenal of traps, spells and summons in the form of a deck in a trading card game. In the game's lobby, you'll even be able to inspect the heroes' loadouts, but they won't be able to see what you have in store for them.

Additionally, you'll even be able to take direct control of the monsters on the field so you can interact directly with your friends as the Dungeon Master. Doing so will allow you to fill up your Evil Bar, which in turn allows you to start a Danger Event when it's full. You'll be able to summon a big monster with special abilities and a lot of smaller ones.

DungeonLand comes out in 2013 for the PC.
