Remember Hatred? That top-down shooter about mass murdering civilians that literally throw the stirring pot out the window? Destructive Creations are taking a step out of the controversial limelight in favour of a slighter safer title called Ancestors.
Ancestors is a Vikings-themed real-time strategy game, which, described by the developers is a “great starting point” for those unfamiliar with the genre.
So far, there isn’t much news surrounding the game, expect a cinematic trailer and a bunch of high-quality screenshots
When Destructive Creations first came onto the scene with Hatred, they were met with a ridiculous amount of criticism, even causing Steam to remove the game from it’s listing (which they later put back on). But even with the host of attacks against the game’s content, it turned out to perform pretty well, with all round positive reviews.
Personally, I didn’t play Hatred, but I think most of the criticisms of the game came from a context of Rockstars Manhunt franchise. It seems people are still not over the ‘moral panic’ associated with media and easily take the standpoint that violent media causes violent people, thus causing censorship. Personally, I believe this is a naive notion – people play games to escape reality and assume different roles in different games we play – one day we might be a serial killer the other we might be a superhero attacking villains.
