Nintendo Switch Units Are Selling Out Within Hours According To GameStop Senior Director of Merchandising

May 1, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

GameStop’s having a tough time keeping Switch units on store shelves.

Nearly everywhere is facing a drought of Nintendo Switch units. Gamers are having a tough time getting their hands on a console within retail locations and according to GameStop, that’s not going to change anytime soon. A GameStop’s Senior Director of Merchandising recently spoke about Nintendo’s latest console and the lack of units that are being shipped to store locations.

It’s becoming a massive pain for gamers who are wanting a Nintendo Switch unit and consistently find that stores are sold out. The video game console has become a massive hit since it launched on March 3, 2017, likely due to the fact that gamers can enjoy titles at home or on-the-go.

With retailers receiving a rather limited supply with each shipment for the initial console launch, gamers who are wanting a unit will have to be extremely fast and hope to be at the store locations as they open up for daily business. That’s according to Eric Bright, a GameStop Senior Director of Merchandising as he spoke about the issues they are having with Forbes.

Eric Bright noted that the sales for the Nintendo Switch are not slowing down and that each shipment that comes into a store location is not selling out within days but within hours.

“It’s exceeding our expectations. We knew it would be a high-demand product, but our Switch allocations are selling out not in days, but in hours…the demand is so high that consumers have to react quickly to be able to get their hands on them.”

This marks as good news for Nintendo who needed a successful console launch after coming from their less than desirable Wii U console. However, it seems that gamers will have trouble finding a unit in the wild for the foreseeable future, at least until Nintendo opts to increase production.

Now that the console is also seeing it’s next big title release since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there could be a growing number of gamers interested in the console.
