Back 4 Blood 2 Might Be Secretly In Development

July 24, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Are you willing to give this IP another chance?

Turtle Rock Studios is working hard with their next project, but it’s being kept under wraps for now. There isn’t much we know regarding the next game, but a new job posting has emerged that left some of us thinking it could be another attempt at the zombie FPS genre. After ending support for Back 4 Blood, the team has decided to keep things relatively quiet. So we won’t know what’s being developed for a little while. However, that hasn’t stopped some fans from assuming this next game could be Back 4 Blood 2, thanks to Idle Sloth for highlighting a job description opening at the studio from a article by Very Ali Gaming.

If you take to the job description for a senior combat designer position, then you might find that a lot of the responsibilities are a bit like the setup for Back 4 Blood. For instance, the job description talks about combat, class design, skills, and boss encounters. There is also some focus on combat with AI and other players. Likewise, there is talk about working with the maps team to ensure mission layouts and gameplay synergize with the combat loop. Of course, we all might be grasping at nothing here, but this might sound a bit like Back 4 Blood. We know that the first game didn’t live up to players’ expectations.

That’s not to say Back 4 Blood was a bad game. You’ll find plenty of players out there who found it enjoyable, but it wasn’t the game to top Turtle Rock Studios’ previous success in Left 4 Dead. There’s nothing right now to indicate just what the studio is developing as, again, earlier this year, we had an official blog post from Turtle Rock Studios. They officially ended support for their Back 4 Blood title and are back into the grind with something else. It’s their next big thing, and we won’t know what it is until Turtle Rock Studios is ready to unveil it.

With that said, we’re certainly hoping that the developers took everything they’ve learned with Back 4 Blood and brought out an even better experience for a sequel. One area that could be tweaked is the card system, as it just didn’t seem to hit well with players. That might be an area that could be reworked or completely scrapped. For now, it’s purely a waiting game, but are you hopeful that the next game being developed right now is a Back 4 Blood 2? If you haven’t played the first game and want a bit more insight into the gameplay, then check out the Before You Buy video coverage in the video we have embedded below.
