Dota 2 will recieve the "Reborn" update the brings the game into the Source 2 engine "within the coming weeks," Valve said in a recent official blog post.
"With the International behind us and the Majors just around the corner, we're excited to have the world start playing Dota 2 in the brand-new Source 2 engine," Valve said in a post on the Dota 2 blog Tuesday.
In addition to moving the game into an updated engine, the "Reborn" update also will also provide a completely re-worked interface and "create new ways to play" according to Valve.
Valve says that the update will be changing rapidly over the weeks and months after it drops.
"Expect the weeks that follow to focus on ironing out issues, refining the dashboard and iterating based on your feedback," they wrote. "Afterwards, we'll begin shifting our attention toward the in-game UI, where we plan to redesign the HUD and work on a variety of other in-game features."
There's no denying that the "Reborn" update to Dota 2 represents a massive change for the game. But Valve seems committed to preserving the competitive culture that has spawned such successful tournaments as the International, which this year collected a total of $18 million US, of which about $16.5 million were contributed by players purchasing in-game items such as the Compendium.
If you're a Dota 2 player ready to take the plunge, though, you can opt in by launching the Dota 2 client and selecting the "Play" tab to get yourself ready.
