EA has just released episodes three and four of its "The Controller" web series. If you're not familiar with the show, it pairs real-life soldiers with "pro gamers" to team up in a series of challenges both on the virtual and real-life battlefield. This is also the same promotion they did last year for Battlefield 3.
Why are they doing this? Well, the winning pair gets $50,000…that and internet fame. But I think they're mostly doing it for the money.
You can watch episodes 3 below and it shows how real soldiers might deal with a real-life camper.
In the next episode, they go back to the virtual battlefield and they're, of course, using Medal of Honor Warfighter. Now, the military personnel must fight their way through the Somalia map in single-player and their performance will be judged.
If you've watched any of the episodes even last year for Battlefield 3, I honestly can say that the real-life scenarios easily trump showing miltiary people struggling at a game.
Do you like seeing more of these things or should EA focus their advertising budget on something else?
Medal of Honor Warfighter will be out on October 23 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. It will also have an exclusive multiplayer beta for the Xbox 360 sometime in early October.
