The upcoming Souls-like title from Team Ninja, Nioh, will feature a player vs player multiplayer mode, confirms developers. Players from the Souls series will be familiar with the intense PVP styled multiplayer mode, however, gamers will have to wait until post launch to get their hands on the PVP mode.
Director Yosuke Hayashi didn’t delve too deep into details about the upcoming mode, but he did mention that Team Ninja wanted to cater to the PVP style similar to Dark Souls.
“We figured that a lot of different gamers, including those who enjoy Dark Souls, would also play Nioh,” he said. “In the past, we did get feedback from our gamers about whether or not this kind of [PvP] feature existed. We wanted to make sure that we made a commitment to it, and to announce it.”
Hayashi also mentioned that even though this new multiplayer mode is a last-minute reveal, Team Ninja has always had the mode in mind stating:
“As a rule within the game, [main character] William, as well as the enemies that you fight, move and operate in the same way. The reason why we created that game rule is because of developing player versus player at a later date.”
Team Ninja has also hinted at a return to the Ninja Gaiden series stating that “Nioh is a gateway into the next chapter for Ninja Gaiden.” However, Team Ninja did go on to say that they will bring the franchise out of the shadows when the time is right.
Nioh is set to release for PS3 and PS4 on February 9th.
