Assassin’s Creed 3: Naval Battles Offer Wide Mission Variety, Dynamic Weather

August 28, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Players will be able to undertake a wide variety of missions while at sea in Assassin’s Creed 3.

Assassin's Creed 3 Naval Battles

Naval warfare made up a main portion in Ubisoft's presentation of Assassin's Creed 3 at this year's Gamescom. The presentation of this highly anticipated feature has been re-released by Ubisoft today as a walkthrough with the game's creative director Alex Hutchinson narrating over the action.

Unlike previous games, players will be able to take to the high seas as Connor commandeers his very own warship, bristling with cannons and heavily armed marines. As master and commander of the vessel, Connor will be in total command of its navigation and gunnery. Connor will able to navigate the seas around the American colonies and participate in naval battles with other ships.

Players will have several different types of cannon shot at their disposal, including the basic round shot, chain shot to bring down enemy's masts to board them, and grapeshot, which hurts the enemy crew.

There will be a variety of missions to partake while at sea, ranging from attacking forts and boarding enemy vessels in order to assassinate particular Templars onboard.

Assassin's Creed 3 comes replete with a completely dynamic weather system allowing calm seas to transform into raging storms at any point. This changes how the game looks and how it plays. You'll even need to take wave height into account when taking shots at your enemies.

Assassin's Creed 3 is set for a late October release on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The PC version is slated for release in November.
