Did you know that there was a projected Darth Maul game? I didn’t, but now I’m pretty bleak that it didn’t happen…
Posted by developer Thomas Szakolczay on ArtStation, the images depict concept designs of Maul’s costumes, a new imperial officer as well as a very Bladerunner-esque downtown Coruscant
“Gameplay Storyboard: This was a storyboard sequence illustrating how the player would be able to utilise 2 other companion characters. The Droid would scan the environment marking potential threats. Darth Talon would execute special moves on command.” Says Szakolczay.
According to a 2014 report, the Darth Maul game was in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. Players would have walked the path of a young Maul, aged 9 or 11; the story would lead up to directly before the events of Episode 1.
“We wanted to show what he went through to become a Sith. Showcase the torture the Emperor put him through,” Dan Borth, the founder of developer Red Fly, said during the Reddit AMA in October. “Show how you as the player would have made the same mistakes and ended up a Sith.”
Borth said Red Fly was hoping to resurrect the Darth Maul game and possibly pitch it to rights-owner EA, but due to recent events, it seems highly unlikely that the project will ever see the light.
