Kojima Gives New Details About the Characters in Death Stranding

January 11, 2017 by Jordan Biazzo

“I wanted to show a different side of Norman”

Ever since the break between Kojima and Konami, gamers all over have peeked interest in Kojima’s first independent title, Death Stranding. However, there is still very few details about the game. As usual, Kojima has hidden secrets and clues about what’s going in the game within the first two trailers, but still there is nothing concrete to go on.

However, thanks to a new interview with Sugoi Japan, Kojima managed to explain why he has chosen some of the big stars that he did. First off is the scruffy, surviving bad-ass from The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus (Daryl). Kojima stated already that players will play as Norman, however, he will be much different than he is from the Walking Dead; players will see a more emotional side to the character.

“I wanted to show a different side of Norman than we’re used to seeing, by having him in tears and hugging an infant… Most people only know him as Daryl from ‘The Walking Dead’. However, this time, Norman… is butt naked! [laughs].”

During the big break between Kojima and Konami, all Kojima’s friends showed concern and support, including Norman Reedus.

“Norman showed concern and supported me during my previous situation, so when I went independent I went to ask him to appear in my first project. When I offered him a role in my next game, he replied: “Of course, that would be cool! Yes! I would be a fool not to take this!”.

As if Norman Reedus wasn’t a big enough star to join Death Stranding, Kojima has also got into contact with Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One), in which Kojima absolutely loves. Mads will presumably play the role as the main antagonist judging from the latest trailer.

“I’m absolutely in love with Mads, to the point where I watch one of his films every day,” said Kojima. He also said that he was able to notice Mikkelsen with his older works like “Casino Royale” (2006) and “Valhalla Rising” (2009).

Sadly there were no details about what the plot of the game, however, we do know that Kojima Productions have started full development on the project and is planning to release the title before 2020.
