The NPD's most recent report shows that the Nintendo 3DS has hit the Five Million Units Sold benchmark.
To put this in perspective however, keep in mind that the portable console was at 4.5 million units only four months ago in the US, while UK sales were at just under a million under two months ago.
Nintendo has openly admitted that 3DS sales have been falling in the West. On the other hand, there is a silver lining here: Nintendo maintains a 75 per cent share on portable hardware in the US.
And there's more good Nintendo news: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has broken one million units, making it the third highest selling 3DS title of all time, behind Mario Kart 7 at second place with 1.75 million units, and Super Mario 3D Land in first place with 2.1 million units.
Nintendo also has the launch of the 3DS XL to look forward to (August 19 in the US and August 28 in Europe.) Plus, the launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2 will coincide with the handheld's release, coming out the same week.
