The developers behind Final Fantasy XIV have a Fan Fest going on, and they’re certainly giving their community something to celebrate about. The online MMORPG based in the Final Fantasy universe had just received a big update patch a while ago, but with the announcement of a second expansion there’s something even larger on the horizon.
To get a sense of the scale of changes that comes with a Final Fantasy XIV expansion, looking at what Heavensward did for the game is a good point of reference. With Stormblood, the MMORPG reaches it’s 4.0 update – The level cap bumps up to 70, and new jobs will be introduced, while jobs already available will get some new equipment. Speaking of jobs, the skill system is getting a revamp to help accommodate players who wants to change their in-game profession. The Battle System is also getting a remodeling. Another residential area is coming in this next expansion, but they aren’t ready to disclose the details of that yet for story reasons. The plot of the expansion will take players to the land of Ala Mhigo and have them pitted against an evil dude known as Zenos.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC (Mac), PS4 and PS3. The Stormblood Expansion is set to arrive next Summer. One of the downsides of this new expansion is that PS3 support is ending for the game, but Square Enix is helping the player-base make the upgrade transition sometime in the near future closer to the game’s launch.
