The highly anticipated Kickstarter-backed title Yooka-Laylee will be getting a retail release thanks to its new publisher Team17, which will handle the game’s physical and digital publishing duties.
Though originally slated as a digital-only title, the game’s developer Playtonic stated in a new development update that it will also be available in brick and mortar stores. The company says that it’s also working for a way to allow backers of the digital version to upgrade to a physical release, if they so choose.
We’re delighted to be able to offer Yooka-Laylee in both digital and boxed flavours in time for the game’s launch in Q1 2017. As we speak, our business badgers are busily burrowing away on an initiative that will allow Kickstarter backers to upgrade their digital pledge to a physical version, if they choose to do so. We’re not ready to share the exact details just yet, but very soon you should be able to stick your head in the badger hole and look for yourself.
Team17, which develops titles in the Worms series, is also the publisher of smaller titles like The Escapists. Yooka-Laylee is the latest game in its repertoire.
Unless there are any delays, the game is set for release in the first quarter of 2017 for the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
