Activision CEO: Call of Duty is Here to Stay

Call of Duty isn’t going to go away anytime soon, says Activision CEO.

The CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, has stated in a recent interview with Marketplace that the best-selling Call of Duty franchise will live on forever.

Some gamers—or at least fans of the Battlefield series—may express a dislike for the rival first-person shooter, but it’s undeniably popular. Love it or hate it, the series is here to stay. Our very own Jake Baldino had a chance to play the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at an Activision event in Los Angeles where he expressed strong, positive impressions of the upcoming game, which is set in the distant future where humanity has colonized the stars.

Speaking in the interview, Kotick spoke about the company’s plans for mobile gaming, and its strengths as a platform-agnostic publisher. Rather than sign any sort of exclusivity deals with either Sony or Xbox One for its titles, the publisher has instead opted to release its games across every gaming platform, including the PC.

Call of Duty has been a staple in Activision’s roster since Infinity Ward developed the first Call of Duty well over a decade ago and it continues to remain one of the best-selling titles every year, offering a new entry from Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and the newer Sledgehammer Games, all three of which develop their own Call of Duty title each year with new innovations and story.

The upcoming game, like previous entries, is set to offer a campaign, a robust multiplayer mode, and a Zombies co-op mode.

2016 will be a first for the franchise, in that Activision is publishing Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as well as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which might be closer to a remake of the first Modern Warfare than your average remastered title.

Both games come out on November 4, with the Modern Warfare title available as part of an $80 bundle called the Legacy Edition.
