It’s debatable whether Final Fantasy XII is as good as everyone remembers. I think it was, and I’ve been longing for a PS4 update ever since remasters became a thing Square Enix does. Imagine how pleased I was when the publisher announced that it was going to remaster the game for the PS4 and provide new textures and models to the beautiful, but aged game for the PS2.
Today, Square Enix released a new trailer intended for its Japanese audience at the Tokyo Game Show, exhibiting new gameplay footage from the remastered title. As you can imagine, it doesn’t look anywhere as good as Final Fantasy XIII or the upcoming Final Fantasy XV, but it looks none too shabby.
The upcoming remaster includes all the upgrades to the Zodiac job system that was only released in Asian and Japanese markets, allowing players to fully specialize the heroes in their party. It also includes a new recording of the soundtrack to bring it up to par with the high fidelity audio of current-gen games.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (that’s what it’s called) comes out in 2017 for the PS4. No exact date has been given at this time.
