It may seem a bit of an oddity, but Square Enix will be putting out an exclusive title to the Apple Watch. In fact, the game will be an RPG based off the Cosmos Rings franchise, however, details on the video game have yet to be released.
Thanks to Kotaku and images from Gamer, we’re finding out about an upcoming Cosmos Rings RPG for the Apple Watch which will be taking use of time and the pedometer function. Although, because only a website for the game has been released with a few screenshots, there has been no details as to how this game will play out or where within the Cosmos Rings timeline it’s set within.
Some may question the need to put an exclusive title onto the Apple Watch, especially one that is set to be an RPG. However, out of speculation, it would appear that perhaps the wildly successful Pokemon Go application could have played a factor into the decision.
Because Pokemon Go has players up and moving around, Square Enix may be hoping to see a similar craze through Cosmos Rings and the Apple Watch. The argument could be made that Pokemon Go’s success was due to nostalgia and the already filled fanbase of the franchise so we’ll have to wait and see just how well the Cosmos Rings handles when it launches.
