Microsoft Not Ruling Out Xbox One TV DVR Feature

You might recall the announcement of Microsoft tossing aside the Xbox One TV DVR feature. This was a feature that would have allowed gamers to record media and store it on the console to enjoy later or stream to other connected devices such as a Windows 10 PC. Microsoft has since tossed aside the DVR feature for the Xbox One, however, Xbox general manager Dave McCarthy has once again brought the feature into the limelight by giving his thoughts on the possible DVR functionality of the Xbox One.

Officially, Microsoft put the Xbox One TV DVR feature on hold with a Microsoft spokesperson stating the following to The Verge.

“After careful consideration, we’ve decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10.”

Now after a month has passed, Microsoft’s Xbox general manager Dave McCarthy has brought the TV DVR feature up once again to GameSpot.

“Those are always tough decisions. You kind of have to prioritize where you’re focusing your time. We listen, we look at that User Feedback site on a regular basis and try and respond to what people want the most. I wouldn’t rule it out entirely, over time.”

Microsoft has placed a number of media-centric features when it came to the Xbox One. However, Microsoft now seems to be focused more on easily connecting the Windows 10 platform and the Xbox One by introducing gamers with the Play Anywhere feature. Essentially, Play Anywhere allows gamers to purchase a video game once to unlock it both on the Xbox One and the Windows 10 platform.

If you were hoping to gain access to the TV DVR feature for the Xbox One then you’re not completely out of luck as Microsoft may once again revisit the feature to release in an upcoming update.
