Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed Days Gone for the PS4 at E3 last week, and more information about the game’s details is starting to surface.
An insightful recent Playstation blog gives us more context to this story, telling us how Deacon St. John really came to exist as the antihero of Days Gone. Before society feel apart, Deacon was a member of a motorcycle gang. His days on the open road taught him the survival skills he needed to survive past the collapse of humanity.
“It’s about the human condition — this guy’s a broken man,” according to the game’s creative director. “A lot of us are motorcycle riders. It’s a really vibrant culture. It’s often associated with criminals, mayhem, and violence, but it’s also about brotherhood and family. Because Deacon has suffered so much loss he holds on to that aspect of his past, and cherishes those relationships. It’s about him finding himself, because he no longer has his motorcycle gang.”
The centerpiece of the Days Gone experience is your motorcycle. “The motorcycle plays a huge, huge part,” the developers said. As a vehicle, it has more flexibility when it comes to navigation and mobility. You need a specialized kind of ride to be able to escape from the dangerous places Deacon St. John explores in this game’s world.
Days Gone is coming to PS4 at some point in the future, but the game currently has a TBA release date.
