A surprising twist has emerged in Rockstar’s fight against hackers.
As reported by RockstarIntel, the Dutch police claim to have caught a member of ShinyHunters. This is a 24 year old man found in Amsterdam.
ShinyHunters was the hacker group who got their hands on some Rockstar Games data last April. While Rockstar didn’t pay their ransom, their leak turned out to be non-damaging, nowhere near as harmful to Rockstar as Cyberleek.
But another report alleges that this situation is bigger than video games. Reuters reported that the man was already supposedly reformed from hacking and was working as a security professional. We won’t name the suspect here, but they’re also under investigation for two murders.
For their part, ShinyHunters has denied that they are associated with the named suspect. Rockstar has been facing the threat of leaks and hackers since their first GTA blockbusters, but as best as we can remember nobody in those prior incidents were connected to anything like this.
