There’s still more that we don’t know about XBOX’s ongoing reset.
According to Christopher Dring in the latest episode of the Game Business, there’s more going on for Rare and Arkane Studios than meets the eye.
As we previously reported, Ninja Theory is currently undergoing redundancy consultations. This process does not mean the studio has already closed, but UK law gives them six weeks to find a buyer before it does close down.
Arkane Studios, currently making Marvel’s Blade, is also under consultation process. But since they’re based in Lyon, France, their consultation will last until the end of 2026.
Rare is not facing the same risks, but the studio was diminished before falling under Activision. XBOX made cuts at their non-game developer positions, and its game Everwild was cancelled.
While Rare is busy supporting Sea of Thieves, they are also working on other projects. With this change, Rare needs to convince Activision to approve those projects before they can move forward.
While we certainly can’t avoid the megaton news of Activision making the next Halo, these other changes could lead to XBOX’s next hits or duds in the coming years.
