Hideo Kojima shared a surprising revelation about PHYSINT that raises more intrigues about PlayStation behind the scenes.

In an interview with IGN, Kojima talked about how he was convinced to make a new action espionage game after receiving requests for a new Metal Gear. While he could not work on Konami’s property, he conceived of a new game idea for the genre.
And then Kojima said:
During that time, coincidentally, I was meeting with Jim Ryan, the former CEO of SIE. It was right before his retirement, I guess.
I was talking to him, and he said, “Oh, that’s a great idea. Let’s create a new action espionage game.” And we shook hands and that’s how the partnership started.
The corporate structure of SIE is different from the Jim Ryan days. But this was a project that we were both excited about and mutually agreed on. So because of that, the shock was even bigger in June.
Of course, here Kojima is alluding to the shock of Sony cancelling the game, years after Jim Ryan retired. With PlayStation not explaining why they cancelled PHYSINT, one has to ask if Jim’s exit had something to do with it.
