GTA RP and modding continues to get bigger, even bigger than some live service games.

As found by ResetERA user Xando, FiveM reached a peak of 202,756 players on SteamDB recently. This happened last Sunday, March 19, UTC. That puts it at number 88 in the top live player counts in the database.
To put that in context, Marathon peaked near launch at 88,337 players. That places Bungie’s game at number 2443 in the top live player counts.
As of this writing, FiveM reached a 24-hour peak of 180,591 players while Marathon’s 24-hopur peak is at 53,846 players.
FiveM may not be for everyone, but it certainly lines up with some trends in gaming that genuinely rivals live service. Beyond game modding and role playing, FiveM’s use of user generated content gives it the same type of appeal as MineCraft and Roblox.
We’re not litigating Marathon’s success or future here. But these numbers make it easier to understand why Rockstar decided to embrace GTA RP by acquiring FiveM.
