The Warcraft movie finally hits theaters on June 10th. But forecasts have already predicted how much the World of Warcraft motion picture will bring in ahead of time.
This is coming from Variety‘s film reporters, who have Warcraft opening weekend projections at a modest $25 million in the movie’s public debut. The Conjuring 2 and Now You See Me 2 are coming out on the same day, both of which are expected to beat out Warcraft in the Box Office. The report went on to suggest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows may even do better, despite that movie being in it’s second weekend.
“I don’t think anyone is going to be disappointed after this,” Duncan Jones said. “And if it goes well, I am pretty convinced that Chris Metzen and I have a very good idea of what story we can tell in three films, given the opportunity.”
What actually sticks out to me is the fact that the Warcraft movie budget was $160 million. Assuming that cited number is correct, it places the movie in the running for the top 100 most expensive films of all time. But for some perspective, Blizzard would have to sell 3,200,000 copies of World of Warcraft: Legion to make that amount of cash back. So really it’s just another day at the office for them.
